Mayabe Essentials, LLC was founded in 2020 by Maya A. Smith, a Registered Nurse and Caribbean naturalista in search of healthy hair care alternatives.  What initially began as a creative pastime, has evolved into a brand dedicated to promoting health, wellness, and inclusion of all hairstyles, lengths, and textures.

It all began in 2012, when Maya began transitioning from relaxed to natural hair after experiencing chemical burns to her scalp as a result of a relaxer.  At the time, she began researching all-natural, healthy hair care ingredients.  During her spare time, she experimented with various ingredients and tweaked them as needed to make the perfect blend.  This led to her first creation- Coconut Milk Moisturizing Shampoo.  After her big chop in September 2012, she continued perfecting her recipe and began sharing samples with family and friends.

As Maya continued making new creations, she discovered that her diligent hair care regimen was proving successful in regaining her hair health and length after her big chop.  In 2019, she expanded to hair oils and also briefly entertained the idea of starting a business.  In 2020, with support from her community of family and friends, she decided to make that dream a reality.   In 2021, Mayabe Essentials, LLC opened its doors.  At this time, she expanded her business to include all-natural body products.

Maya’s goal is to promote the acceptance of all crowns of hair: natural, relaxed, and in-between. She stands by Mayabe Essentials’ brand slogan: Honest. Simple. Beautiful.  She is dedicated  to offer honest ingredients, for a simple routine that yields beautiful results.   These key elements allow her customers to experience a more holistic approach to hair care and body care.
